Violin & Viola Lessons are offered for all ages, levels and styles of music including classical and Irish folk / fiddle. Students will learn using a curriculum that is designed for each student individually in order to accommodate their own unique learning style and facilitate growth in the areas that are most needed.
The violin/viola teachers at AMA incorporate elements of both the Suzuki and French/Western methods of teaching. Additionally, students learn using both traditional learning methods as well as technology-based methods in order to best facilitate music education in a learning-friendly environment.
The teaching model used at AMA is unique from the average private lesson program. Our students advance more quickly, learn more effortlessly and are more excited to learn than students in other private lesson programs. To read more about our unique teaching method and learning model, click here.
AMA violin/viola teachers have years of teaching experience, and all of our faculty members have college degrees and/or technical training. In addition to having years of traditional training as both a musician and an educator, the string teaching staff is trained in the AMA teaching method that helps students learn faster and more effectively, as well as provides students different music genre and style choices to help diversify their learning and make music more fun to learn. Our method is based on the idea that if learning is fun - and students WANT to learn - than not only will they become better musicians but will also continue to play for the rest of their lives.
Our traditional approach in teaching the violin combines developing excellent technique and overall playing ability while still making the violin a fun instrument to learn. Our teachers aim to develop strong left hand articulation, proper bow technique including sounding point, bow speed and bow pressure use, and advanced intonation skills that incorporate perfect/melodic intonation comprehension into the overall skillset of playing the violin and/or viola - an advanced intonation understanding that many teachers do not include within their curriculum.must be adapted to in order to make learning fun, rewarding and beneficial.
